Kitty Griffith began her journalism career in her hometown, Atlanta, and then went to New York, where first she edited a local paper. Subsequently, she began using her journalism skills in different ways. She headed communications for the New York Chamber of Commerce and Industry and was public information officer for New York City’s Ports and Terminals department.
In 1972, she joined Citicorp as a public relations officer and rose to assistant vice president. Her internal clients included Diners Club, Signature Magazine and Citicorp Retail Services. While at Citi, she also worked for Corporate Human Resources, where she wrote and produced brochures and newsletters.
For 10 years after that, she was head of corporate communications in the United States for Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, and then for Signet Bank in Richmond until that bank was bought by Wachovia a year later. That ended her career in the financial communications for which she was listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who of American Women; Who's Who in the South; Who's Who in Finance and Industry; Who's Who in the World. Consequently, she became communications and external relations director for the New York Association of Grantmakers.
She moved to Chatham from New York five years ago and quickly became active in community affairs, politics and for a while, wrote for the Chatham County Line.
